Re: KAEO: Preston Santos

^ Looks like the 800 nominees are both MBB and WBB. So maybe more like 1/3? But I kinda doubt they ALL go D1. Nor does it necessarily mean they're in the top third of D1 recruits.

Re: KAEO: Preston Santos

^ Isn't there something like ~1,100 D1 scholarships to go around every year?

Re: Future of UMass System

Hmm that'd be interesting. Although if Stockbridge kids would have to go between main campus and Hampshire it's currently a 30-minute walk+PVTA bus ride from the ag-school. I don't know much about Stockbridge, but there might be some logistics they'd need to work out. And of course, Hampshire would ...

Re: UConn losing $40M a year on sports - cut sports?

^ Here's what I know about the Big East and its relationship with UMass and the A10. There have been reports dating back 20+ years of UMass trying to join the Big East/AAC. Calipari was rumored to be approached by multiple Big East schools as early as 1993 (I think). Over time the Big East has raide...

Re: Future of UMass System

In case you hadn't heard: Hampshire College is closing, er, "looking for a merging partner". https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2019/01/15/hampshire-college-facing-financial-pressure-considers-merger/hKHgkWoZ1Ca5bs952kknCL/story.html I don't know of anything UMass would want to do with their campus. ...

Re: UConn losing $40M a year on sports - cut sports?

McKinney, all of what you cite above just reinforces my point that they got screwed over royally. With that pedigree and all of those accomplishments how is it that not only did the ACC pass on inviting them(more than once) to join the conference but the Big 10 did as well? Heck the Big 10 chose Ru...

Re: UConn losing $40M a year on sports - cut sports?

- They got a 40k seat stadium without having to take on any kind of financial risk in. The state foot the bill and UConn just "rents" it. FWIW UConn actually pays $170k per game to rent that stadium in addition to other operating costs ( pg 9 ). Operating costs are a sunk cost because they'd have t...

Re: "ZooMass" Is No More

The Pats have been in the Super Bowl three of the four years I've been here. I can't recall anything truly ridiculous happening.

Re: UConn losing $40M a year on sports - cut sports?

When all the power conferences realigned early in the century, the only school which got screwed worse than UMass was UConn . And they're paying for it now. Fact. UConn got screwed? IDK they've had some pretty miraculous things happen in the past twenty years: - To my knowledge, they're the only FC...

Re: UConn losing $40M a year on sports - cut sports?

That is an eye-opener. Perhaps being in the AAC is not what it is all cut out to be. Some of this they've brought on themselves. UCONN spends more than any other public school outside of the power conferences, $20M more than the next biggest spender (Cincy). Combine that with the largest subsidy in...

Re: 2019 Recruiting

Again, for the stats guys, what percentage of programs remain totally intact from a given year to given year? Would be interesting to see. My guess would be most have some turnover for whatever reason, grades, playing time, team chemistry, etc. So in that regard i'd agree with Niles that its a flui...

Re: I have two words for us... RICK PITINO!

Should have hired him in 2001 instead of Lappas. He went to C-USA's Louisville that year after being fired from the Celtics. There would have been something poetic about hiring an alumnus who's team beat us in the 1996 Final Four.

Now? Not happening.

Re: Game 17 - George Mason 1/16/19

Against GMU, McCall should've instructed the team to foul Greg Calixte, who's shooting 29% from the line this year (and who shot 43% last year). Against SLU, we should've sent French, who's a career sub 40% FT shooter, to the line more (him going 7-10 was a fluke). Against La Salle we should've sen...

Re: future scheduling talk

I do think we need to emphasize its importance. I'm not sure it's a good look for that emphasis to necessarily come from the admin (like a trophy), but a rivalry that dates back 122 years and 73 meetings should be respected.
