Re: Serious Question

Perhaps the staff is not chosen for teaching fundamentals, but aspects such as recruiting talent. IMO, the AAU system rewards spectacular athleticism via videos, "top 10', etc., not talent development. And whatever their skill level is in high/prep school, most can simply outrun or outjump the comp...

Re: Serious Question

Context is missing here. Last year Mark Schmidt took a team of mostly freshmen to the conference finals. Other teams confront the same challenges as we do, but haves been much more successful. They beat us, of course. Right, because he prioritizes fundamentals most likely and interchangeable scheme...

Re: Serious Question

...crapping the plays and letting the guys ‘just play’...both could work but neither will work without rebuilding the foundation of the fundamentals these players play with...develop that and they can run any offense or defense they want. In 2+ years I have not seen any evidence that this is being ...

Re: 2019-20 season

Honestly that 3-4 yr plan thing is a little concerning. So if the plan was TB coming aboard to be the coach down the line, but ONLY when/if there was success and MM moved on, that tells me that MM/UMass were already looking ahead to moving on. So if he's successful, we've already got a plan in plac...

Re: 2019-20 season

Ya, good piece by Walfish. Question for TheOFFSeason: There was a lot of talk last year about getting guys from winning programs who do the little things, make winning plays and hold each other accountable. Why does that not seem to be translating? They are not being held accountable by the coachin...

Re: Serious Question

One aspect of the Walfish article that struck me was the HS skill set the players try to employ. They haven’t been taught that their superior athletic ability that garnered HS success and D1 scholarships are not unique in college basketball. They seem to play with a swagger they haven’t earned. The ...

Re: Game 18, 2019-20: George Washington (1/18)

Any thoughts on why only 25 minutes for Samba yesterday? Kid just had a few double/ double games and he sat a lot of the game. My guess is Dibaji was in there for offense when a Tre was on the bench. Making not having Tre in even more insane. Putting Tre in would have allowed Samba to be in there m...

Re: Game 18, 2019-20: George Washington (1/18)

Tre Mitchell’s dad tweeted that we were being out coached and that losing needs to end. That either means McCall is gone or Tre is if we don’t start showing some resolve and win some games IMO. McCall’s reflection that he is not coaching well right now better mean that he is willing to learn and cha...

Re: Game 18, 2019-20: George Washington (1/18)

Trying to rely on the three when GW defends it so well was plain stupid. Did we miss some open shots yes. We are not coached to be in position on offense or defense. Fundamentals including how to protect the ball, rip the ball, pass, are all lacking as well.

Re: State of the Progam

^ Carl - You missed the point. He's talking about state education systems, not football systems. Appy is part of the NC system the same way that UMass Medical is part of the MA system. I realize it’s a state school, I thought he was implying/inferring (never know which one to use) that the NC state...

Re: Game 16, 2019-20: at Dayton (1/11)

Pure speculation on my part here. McCall didn’t contact him, because he had already signed his letter of intent. I don’t know the rules, completely, but if McCall called him and told him he was leaving and Crutcher decided to try to follow, couldn’t tampering be alleged? Crutcher was a teenage and M...

Re: State of the Progam

If Appalachian State and Liberty can succeed in FBS Football, there is no reason why we cannot. Football and Men's Basketball are, by far, the most important sports in college athletics and we are no better now, if not worse, 5 years into Bamford's tenure. Rest assured that if he was doing a very g...

Re: Game 16, 2019-20: at Dayton (1/11)

I'd like it if there was more to the story, because the way it was represented in the press was not very flattering to McCall. https://www.daytondailynews.com/sports/archdeacon-heartfelt-hug-handshake-for-dayton-grant-crutcher/EKdFJJC6agC87bmodKabVJ/ Seems like it is an okay situation. I’m struggli...
