Re: Game 9, 2019-20: South Carolina (12/4)

that was awful, and it's on the coach. The press accomplished a couple things: 1. give away tons of layups, dunks, and easy offensive put-backs to an opponent that shoots poorly 2. wear out our own team, leading to mistakes when it counted the most late in the game This makes 3 games in a row agains...

Re: Around the A10 (2019-2020)

what's up with St, Joe's? Got a nice in @UConn and now lost 6 straight. Walloped at home a couple days ago by St. Francis and then today another home loss by 23 to Lafayette.

Re: Game 9, 2019-20: South Carolina (12/4)

another interesting preview from their side. One big question for them is the return of Keyshawn Bryant, who has been out with a knee injury, but is expected to be back. Perhaps rusty for his first game back (hope so). https://www.thestate.com/sports/college/university-of-south-carolina/usc-mens-bas...

Re: Julius Erving

great reading about this. wonderful write-ups from the Collegian. how things have changed, from the days when the season opener was December 2, versus this season with 8 games already played. That Collegian headline "Redmen Roast Friars"--a reminder that we weren't the Minutemen back then. Of course...

Re: Game 8, 2019-20: at Rutgers (11/29)

I don't think we're going to stop pressing. It's the identity of the team under the current leadership. The coaching commitment is evident in the two new recruits. Lots of us were calling out for bigs, but what we got was more wings, and more athletic wings. Now that we have Sy back, we have nine g...

Rutgers are -8 point favorites.

Any NY/NJ folks making it to the game?
I am, with a couple of the kids. Not used to day games, which judging by last week-end might be bad for us

Re: KAEO Curtis Cobb (2015)

Quoted without comment: "College transfer scorecard" via ESPN: "Biggest surprises ... Curtis Cobb, Wagner: It's not as if Cobb wasn't given opportunities in the past; he took more than 11 shots per game during his sophomore season at Fairfield and was a part-time starter at UMass last season. But Co...

Re: Game 8, 2019-20: at Rutgers (11/29)

Watched some of Rutgers beating up on NJIT last night. Rutgers players are all physical and strong. Their top guy was Ron Harper Jr. (6'6, 245), son of a 15-year NBA player of the same name. Then Baker at 6'4, 185, big for a point guard. 3rd guy is Yeboah (6'6, 230 senior). Their big is Myles Johnso...

Re: Around the A10 (2019-2020)

that was Dayton over Georgia yesterday, which led to my comment about upcoming UMass vs S. Carolina likely to decide the A-10 vs SEC for this year. But last night's big upset of Richmond over Wisconsin sets up another A-10 vs. SEC game today when Richmond faces Auburn. it was a great night for the A...

Re: Game 8, 2019-20: at Rutgers (11/29)

I expect we'll be underdogs in each of the next 4 games, but as of now we're only big underdogs in 1, and that 1 is Rutgers. Perhaps a combination of game locations and Harvards losses. The RAC (Rutgers Athletic Center) can be a very tough place to win. Last year Rutgers was 10-7 at home vs. 4-9 awa...

Re: Around the A10 (2019-2020)

have to agree with you that Toppin must be favored to be POY in the A-10. Dayton blew out Georgia today, reminding me of what at the time seemed to me the best win of Coach McCall's (then short) time at UMass. I think Dayton's win put the A-10 at 4-3 vs. the SEC. I know of 2 upcoming A-10 vs. SEC g...

leads the team in FG%, which I would not have predicted. Then again, I would not have predicted that TJ would be the leading scorer and Samba would lead in rebounds.

Re: Defending National Champ games

the Kansas win felt somewhat like a fluke even while being very enjoyable. Maybe we were overlooked or not taken seriously enough by Kansas. That game gave us some, "hey we could be very good after all" but was not very convincing. Others, like those mentioned from the Calipari years, felt like "yea...

Re: UMass OOC Opponents 2019-2020

Holy Cross with no answer for Jordan Roland, who got 28 points in 27 minutes (11 for 13 overall with 6 of 7 on 3s). Roland's 28 points was his lowest output all year, except for getting only 14 at UMass. he would clearly have had more last night if he played more (averaging 39 min/game until last ni...
