Re: Game 3: ODU

I'll be there. Luckily, my youngest two kids are still more concerned with the bounce house and getting a hot dog than they are with the final score.

Re: McGuirk Upgrade

Commonwealth club seemed okay if one NEEDS a drink and and forgot to bring their own. The food was no better than was available under the stands. The tent the Alumni Association had for many years featured a different and interesting buffet every game. I think I'll go back to traditional tailgating ...

Was anyone else as underwhelmed by the Commonwealth Club as I was? I don't think I'll be going there again.

Re: Game 1 (2017) Hawaii

Maybe Photoman has other obligations. I have season tickets and live in the Pioneer Valley, but have missed games due to my children's soccer and hockey games and/or practices, etc. In fact, I waited until start times were announced this year to renew my tickets since I knew I couldn't make it to ma...

Re: Football Broadcasting/Distribution

They need to saturate market. Show the games for free, give out free tix to schools. One has to be very careful about giving away too much free stuff as it lowers the perceived value of the product. I like the idea of adding free or discounted stuff to the season ticket package as it makes the seas...

Re: McGuirk Upgrade

I give the school credit for trying to get the kids in the gate - as I've said before, getting kids through the gate is difficult for top-tier football schools, never mind lower tier programs. From 2014: https://www.wsj.com/articles/at-college-football-games-student-sections-likely-to-have-empty-se...

Re: 2017-2018 Season

the 11-team playoff format for 2017-18. This could be big for us next year. With the talented youth coming in we should be a much better team by HE playoff time. Sure all teams ought to get better during the season, but UMass could be in a position to make some noise in the HE playoffs even if the ...

Re: Next year's class of recruits

From what I've read over the past couple months Makar needs to get bigger and stronger to play defense in the NHL. Everyone is confident that that will happen over the next one-three years and that the collegiate hockey, especially Hockey East, will give him and opportunity to play against bigger gu...

He's still posting stuff on twitter related to UMass, so I'd assume he's still coming.

Re: 2017 Recruiting

Simon seems like a excellent player from a very bad team who didn't have much of a chance to showcase his talent this past fall:

Re: Ellen Noble; National Cyclocross Champion

Ellen is also a super person and great with kids. Recently, my daughter and I had cycled to my daughter's soccer practice in Nonotuck Park. Ellen was there with her coach just doing a little off-day riding. After my daughter's practice we approached Ellen (who was resting). As my daughter was also t...
