Re: The flagship...

OK, so I had no idea about the flagship campaign. I thought the original question here was specifically about the football team. Any campaign that eliminates the "-Amherst" moniker is worth pursuing. Out of curiosity, why is (was?) this so objectionable to some here? Not trying to start an argument...

Re: The flagship...

At the moment, it looks like the Flagship is flagging. I'd like to say "rebuilding," but I'm taking a wait and see attitude on that one. :?

Re: State of the Progam

I expected to see at least two wins at home. SIU, UConn and Akron were the games that I thought we were likely to win. I figured there was a chance we might lose to Akron or UConn not SIU. I also assumed coastal would be competitive but didn’t expect a win. I despise liberty and hoped we could repe...

Re: State of the Progam

All of the comments about being a fan through thick or thin are great, but the thread is State of the Program; and that state is dismal, with no evidence that that will change any time soon, if ever. We're worse than I anticipated this season (and I predicted a 2-10 season), and no question things ...

Re: State of the Progam

I wish people would stop comparing this to the hockey situation. Carvel was a proven head coach who turned around a moribund SLU program, and before that had been an NHL assistant for several years. I’m not saying Bell can’t turn this around, but the circumstances are far different. I wasn't compar...

Re: State of the Progam

Does anyone have any concerns that our current staff has a few coaches that were at Maryland when the culture there was toxic? In a word, no. I have no such concerns. If the people who are here were part of that, I hope they learned their lesson and are trying to do better now. If they don't do bet...

Re: Game 2: Southern Illinois - 9/7/2019

My point was not just focused on qb. Thinking about last year, if Barr was not granted a sixth year and averaged 40 tackles per game, how many games would UMASS have won???? Who was being brought up behind him? I think Bell needs to get about 15 players from the transfer portal to get some experien...

Re: Game 2: Southern Illinois - 9/7/2019

The good part of Coach Bell's hurry up spread offense is that we don't have to watch it for very long b/c is usually on and off the field in less that 2 minutes...at which point the McGuirk DJ slams us w/a cacophony of bad rap or worn out old metal at decibel levels that make it impossible to hear ...

Re: Game 2: Southern Illinois - 9/7/2019

Abysmal performance. Coach Bell's hurry up spread offense doesn't work w/this group. He doesn't have a QB that can run the offense. The Defense is beyond bad - they couldn't stop a mediocre at best SIU offense. Terrible performance. Hopefully they improve dramatically. I totally agree about that sp...

Re: Game 2: Southern Illinois - 9/7/2019

This is, in theory, UMass' most winnable game this season. My hope is that they take care of business with a workmanlike win. But my gut tells me it will be far more "interesting" than that. This is actually a well placed game in the schedule for the team. At a minimum I'm hoping they can solidify s...

Re: Game 1: @ Rutgers - 8/30/2019

So for everyone who was "ok" with losing games this season as long as they see progress.......what do you think so far? This was exactly what I expected. New group of young players, new coach, new system. As I said in the number of wins thread, we're going to get creamed at times this year, and I f...

I am a pessimist: 3 (Southern Illinois, Akron, UConn)
I'm more of a pessimist and think we win only two of those three. Unless the team is a real surprise, at this moment I don't see any other winnable games on the schedule this year.

Re: What do you want from the 2019 season

I hope to see the team play hard each game and show improvement across the board as the season goes on. Show that they are competing every down regardless of the score. This is pretty much where I am. Coach Bell has talked about intensity a lot, particularly on defense. I want to see that intensity...

Re: Minutemen - Eagles, Hockey East Semis

I think tonight was the most UMass a UMass team has ever UMassed. One of the most uninspired efforts all year. Expecting they will be the 4 seed in the NCAAs. Complete and utter disappointment. Only guy who showed up tonight was Lindberg. Totally agree. Worst I've seen them play, looked totally out...
