Re: UMASS Dartmouth cuts sports

Lots of colleges are playing chicken right now on Fall sports, but they are running out of time to make decisions, probably in step with how many students will be back on campuses. I think many “big-boy” schools have already made an inevitable decision internally but don’t want to be the first ones...

FWIW different sports information directors are responsible for men’s basketball and women’s basketball.

Re: AD Ryan Bamford

I can’t see the A-14 messing with their marquee sport, men’s basketball. I’m glad they were able to keep some semblance of conference play together. It would be a shame to see them do what the CAA did and not have conference games... though my gut tells me many conferences will explore that flex mod...

Re: 04 HE Championship game

Just came in for some lunch and see that NESN is replaying the 04 HE Championship triple ot game vs Maine at 3. One of the best, if not THE best, hockey games I've ever watched. Been dying for this to be on. Sucked that they lost but what an effort and game that was Up until a couple years ago, thi...

Re: College Hockey retracting? UAB drops sport

It looks like UAH hit the $750k goal to keep the program for the 20-21 season.

Re: College Hockey retracting? UAB drops sport

UAH boosters have put together a last-second effort to save the program. They need to raise $750k by Friday to keep the program for next year. A couple of UAH alums donated a significant part. Flames goalie Cam Talbot (a UAH guy) is helping out with the fundraising, as well as a handful of NHL playe...

Re: College Hockey retracting? UAB drops sport

The story of UAH (not UAB) decision to drop hockey is multifaceted with financial implications and conference affiliation. UAH was in the "new" WCHA, which was the sloppy seconds of the "old" WCHA and the "old" CCHA after the Big Ten blew apart the college hockey conference structure. The WCHA range...

Re: AD Ryan Bamford

BC is in a Power 5 conference, albeit as a little fish in a big pond. If Bamford got the AD job, I’d totally understand and wish him the best. I don’t think people here were POed when Thorr became the AD at rival Rhode Island. I’d hope they’d feel similarly for Bamford.

Re: UConn to Big East 2020

UConn announced a four-year football television contract with CBS Sports. 4 home games this season, all home games in 2021 and onward. Interesting notes: - UConn is in ESPN’s backyard, but the Huskies go to their “rival” - UConn gets national exposure... though I’d bet UMass gets more exposure on N...

The only kinda regional thing I've seen the Mullins Center do is the "lobstah mac n' cheese". Which I have not had.
Eating Lobster Mac and Cheese at Mullins is a risky proposition. Maybe I’ll try that. Luckily my season ticket seats are near the men’s room.

Re: Alcohol

Open up a north shore style roast beef sandwich stall and you’d be looking at a gold mine. Every kid originally from Revere to Methuen would be lined up to get their roast beef fix you can’t get in Western MA. That could be a seriously good idea. As a #flagship school for Massachusetts, shouldn’t t...

Re: Alcohol

In the end, UMass sports are very reasonably priced, but as things loosen up I hope that the food choices improve. Too much salt and fat. The department does a respectable job to to engage fans and improve fan relations, but they miss the mark badly on this one. For a university that loves to tout ...
