Re: 2020-21 season

Jess nelson is retiring from basketball. Two major knee surgeries IIRC. A lot of people refer to her as the "team mom" with a calming influence on the locker room. I think she will remain with the program in some leadership capacity.

Re: 2020-21 season

From what I heard, there were some family issues, maybe a death or serious illness in the family. She had great offensive abilities (NH high school player of the year if i recall correctly). I do recall her defense lacking, but just like Verdi said about Ber'Nyah, in high school, a lot of the best p...

Re: 2020-21 season

Grace Heeps is gone, transferring to UAlbany, very close to her home. I bet the home angle really appealed to her in addition to actually playing basketball. Her mom said last year that she "missed playing the game". She didn't get a ton of minutes with the fast offense that UMass ran last year and ...

Re: 2020-21 season

Honestly, I thought one or both of these could happen. I do think they helped bring the program to its current trajectory and have helped UMass make tremendous strides. With the talent currently on the court (Breen, Philoxy, Donnelly) and incoming (heard Desiree Oliver is a scoring threat every trip...

Re: 2019-2020 Season

Totally understand the need to cancel tournaments but UMass season is now over. Hailey will finish her career at #2 on the all-time scoring list here at UMass. Best of luck to them as I believe they will go to Europe and play professionally.

Re: 2019-2020 Season

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see a WNIT either. SOS was an issue, but the big thing is that we were also 5th in the A10. I think Dayton might have been at-large, but with them winning the conference, A10 is a one-bid conference this year. We would be like the 4th A10 team in the WNIT which I think ...

It's ovah. Per Walfish and others, there is an outside chance of a WNIT bid.
We finished 5th in conference. Last year, 2nd and 3rd went to WNIT. I don't think we would get an invite without winning two in Dayton. I think we could get an invite to WBI -- WNIT would be amazing though.

Re: 2019-2020 Season

2 PM today against the Billikens -- ESPN+ I believe. We did not play our best against them a couple of weeks ago. Hoping for a change. If UMass wins today, we are off to Dayton for the weekend!

Re: 2019-2020 Season

Also, 20 wins this season does tie the program record for wins in a season. For context, Sharon Dawley had 19 wins in her final three seasons.

Re: 2019-2020 Season

This was such a balanced scoring game. I think in the 3rd, we had 4 in double figures. Everything was working yesterday for us. We tied a program record for wins at 20 -- going for an outright record on Friday. I think that to keep our season alive, we have to win on Friday. I looked at the NCAA RPI...

Re: 2019-2020 Season

To get to the NCAA W tournament, UMass would have to beat St. Bonaventure and then likely Saint Louis to follow to play Dayton and then the other side of the bracket. I think with a win in Amherst and then at least one in Dayton, we are in the convo for a post-season birth. Making it to Sunday I thi...

Re: 2019-2020 Season

Based on the A10 WBB website, we should play St. Bonaventure home on Tuesday night. So glad about that. Of the 3 teams that we could face, that is probably our easiest matchup. I would not want to face Mason again after our 2 (3?) OT thriller last year and getting torn apart there earlier this year.

Re: 2019-2020 Season

Hoping they play an inspired game on Senior Day to win which should clinch 5th place in the A10.

Re: 2019-2020 Season

On Instagram, they posted they haven't had this many wins since 1997-98.....the last time they went to the NCAA Women's Tournament! Hopefully they can make it to Dayton and win a couple....then we might be talking WBI/NIT!
