Re: UConn to Big East 2020

UConn has a lot of problems. Rentschler is just one of them. In contrast UMASS was far smarter in developing an on campus venue. Yes it is taking time to get McGuirk renovated and in shape - but we have seen incremental improvements annually which is a far smarter long term strategy than the path U...

Re: Umass and UConn Conference USA

^ Why is that even a national article? Must be a slow news day for NBCSports to be covering the grades of a football player at UConn of all people, places, and things.

Re: State of the program

One thing to keep in mind is that transfers aren't included on that list, even if they were ranked coming out of high school. Idk how much that'd skews things, but yeah.

Re: future scheduling talk

find me somewhere that records the actual football attendance and I will take your bet. I think WSJ is the only non-FOIA source for scanned attendance. UMass had 32,606 in 2017 (announced 51,448). https://www.wsj.com/articles/college-footballs-growing-problem-empty-seats-1535634001 This is pure spe...

Re: 2019 Season

I'm not sure if it's possible but I think UMass best bet for a bowl is to work something out with the Patriots (and maybe P&G) and make a Gillette Bowl similar to New Mexico State and the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl. Give it to whatever 2 conferences you want and UMass get's one of the bids if A) ...

Re: UConn to Big East 2020

UConn will not be able to schedule 12 games in 2020. I've reviewed the other 129 teams, and with the exception of Army, every body is full. Don't know if UConn will be able to survive as a FBS indie. I can actually see them dropping to 1AA. Schedules aren't set in stone until probably the offseason...

Re: UConn to Big East 2020

I think the rumors of ODU, UAB, etc. hold more water than JMU.

But if they can get away with it I can also see the AAC just sticking at 11.

Re: UConn to Big East 2020

Per "Saturday Down South" (reliability? IDK), JMU is in the conversation mix for replacing UConn in AAC football. Any thoughts? I think it's pretty unlikely. That's a pretty big jump for an FCS school. Now JMU has been very competitive at the FCS level, so they might be able to do it... but UMass w...

Re: UConn to Big East 2020

Thanks McKinney. Juice Stand that was kind of anticipating of a response. Mind you there are 6 football games and 18 basketball games. Anticipated response - The stadium is bigger, hence also posting percent full. Hate the percent full stuff as see it used frequently on the A10 board by all the tea...

Re: UConn to Big East 2020

^ Steve did post raw total attendance data as well though: 47,737 for basketball and 62,312 for football.

Re: UConn to Big East 2020

I also think getting to a bowl game matters more to some folks than it does to me. For me it doesn’t mean all that much unless it’s one of the better bowls which are clearly beyond our reach at the moment. The good news is that the AAC has some pretty strong bowl ties as far as G5 conferences go. G...

Re: future scheduling talk

anything to read into with the increasing number of MAC schools on the docket? I see it as schedule filler at this point. Doubtful its anything more than that. Yeah I agree. I think UMass just tries to play as many G5 teams that are relatively close as they can. Some of the MAC teams fit that prett...

Re: UConn back to the Big East?

Umass next to join Big east. USF and UCF headed to Big 12. Temple and Buffalo to A10. UMass, UConn, Temple, Buffalo, Army, Navy, Liberty form alliance or even a small conf for football which will make scheduling much easier with 6 built in games. Who knows who else would end up as Indy in Football?...

Re: UConn back to the Big East?

/\ what if more football games are shifted to Gillette? If it's about capacity (though I'm not entirely sure why it would be), they'd only need to move one game to Gillette per year. That would give us an average capacity in line with the lower end of the AAC. Thoughts on being the replacement to j...
