Re: FIRE WALT BELL!

Interesting quote from the Big 12 commissioner and former Stanford AD Bob Bowlsby, on hiring head football coaches: "As an athletic director, you've got to be an idiot to hire a coordinator that's never been a head coach if you can do anything other than that at all," Bowlsby said. "...

Re: The Painful Truth-Good Intentions Gone Awry

That said the finances should "make sense". Clearly the on-field performance has been a disaster for most of the FBS era. Surely this has had a negative impact on whatever attendance/interest was anticipated. And certainly, that has had an impact financially. Bamford's comments to the Glob...

Re: The Painful Truth-Good Intentions Gone Awry

I think it's possible that the decision was made with starry eyes and a naive projection of cash flows. But it's also possible the decision was made due to strategic concerns given all the realignment throughout the 2000s into the early 2010s. And that while the potential financial opportunities wer...

Re: The Painful Truth-Good Intentions Gone Awry

To those who are delusional and suggest that the football program can be invigorated and achieve long term gridiron glory and attractive financial returns, I say “when does “the build” become “built”, and what is the endgame” (to borrow a term from the corporate tech world)? Do we continue to inves...

Re: FIRE WALT BELL!

You don't want to replace head coaches because that is insanity but you want to replace assistant coaches--you never played football did you--assistant coaches mean everything to the players!!! My suspicion on the willingness to replace ACs over HCs is that the cost to buy them out and replace them...

Re: FIRE WALT BELL!

Good Morning DD - Coach Bell has a 5 yr contract and he won't be fired after 2 seasons one of which was a freaking pandemic season simply bc the team hasn't played up to your standards. That would be insane on multiple levels. He's doing a complete overhaul of the program with probably 55+ Fr/RSF/S...

Re: Game 3: FAU

The defense played better but this wasn’t a Lane Kiffin FAU offensive team of the last few years. They are only averaging 21 ppg without him. So UMass' defense played as well as FAU's other opponents. Not something that could be said in some time (and certainly compared to last year). COVID has thr...

Re: 2020 Season

Honestly, what "leverage" did Bell have coming into this job that warranted automatic pay raise... Bell's contract is for $625k per year. If he got $628k maybe it was a bonus for reaching an academic goal or something. I remember Bamford talking on the Plant The Flag podcast about McCall'...

Re: Game 1A: Georgia Southern

- not sure I agree. The weather sucks but look at nearby Army, Cuse, Penn State. We're remote but so is Penn State Army is a service academy and as such has to recruit a different kind of player. Not only are there physical requirements/restrictions, but they must be able to handle the service &...

Re: Game 1A: Georgia Southern

Georgia Southern total athletic budget = 29M vs our 50M. What's wrong with this picture? Not only are there the pressures that eldonabe mentioned, but comparing the total budget could be misleading because the schools are quite different in how they allocate those resources. Looking at EADA data, U...

It's another year closer to graduation, but without losing a year of eligibility. Could make grad transferring even more enticing.

Maybe Bell's GIF is a reference to the Minuteman missiles. Bit of a stretch?

Re: COVID-19 Discussion

Have you guys looked at the CDC's death number demographic? Just .1% of overall COVID deaths are under 25 years old and it goes up to a measly .8% under 35 years old. Can someone explain to me why all schools and colleges can't resume in the fall? The numbers don't support the argument. There are o...

Re: California law endorses college athletes getting paid/have agents

I know lots of people disagree but, isn't getting a 50k +/yr education with all the percs, academic support etc kind of "getting paid"? I'm sure there's tons of 18-22 yo kids who'd like that deal. Education and living expenses are great. Not only are there tons of 18-22 yo kids who'd like...
