Re: future scheduling talk

I think it is one of the main (only?) benefits of being an Indy - unlimited scheduling flexibility. It's not something that UMass necessarily benefits from, but Indy schools (such as BYU and ND) can also benefit from having their own media contracts. There's no collective bargaining, but they do ge...

With this, preceded by Marcus Camby tweeting at him, makes me wonder if the staff is whispering in their ear telling them MAW is someone they really want, because I don’t see them Tweeting at anyone else we’re recruiting.
Nice to see former players have a good relationship with the staff.

Re: KAEO: Tre Mitchell

FWIW.. which probably means zero, we are rated 20 spots ahead of Rohde Island at #2 in the A-10 6with a lot of P5 teams between us including Michigan and North Carolina.. It would be more meaningful if the rating was for the entire roster but since it's for incoming recruits it's not such a big dea...

Re: State of the program

If we're talking Wichita, you can't forget about Koch.

But I'm not sure we're one to talk. It's not like the surrounding area around UMass is a bustling metropolis.

Re: State of the program

I'd agree on the hockey points regarding the number of teams in the NCAA. But it can be pretty tough to get elite talent in NCAA hockey. The development leagues in hockey are far more mature than basketball. NBA players overwhelmingly go to college (80%+). NHL has more competition where only somethi...

Re: State of the program

What is the thought process for allowing schools to compete in D1 Only for Hockey, Baseball, Soccer, Lacrosse, but not Football and Basketball? I can't think of any reason other than perhaps those sports haven't brought in enough revenue or there aren't enough member schools to move the needle. But...

Re: State of the program

^
From an institutional level, we look nothing like The University of Minnesota-Duluth. And that's what the divisions are about. They are an attempt to match institutional peers. Not competitive peers (directly).

Re: State of the program

69mg, your friends new to collegiate athletics? Not sure how long division 1 basketball has been around but I’d say UMass has been playing it for at least 70 years. DI would have been in 1973, but before that, they were in the DI equivalent "University Division" (excluding football) since 1946-47 a...

Re: State of the program

We have 6, Duq. has 6, LAS has 5 and GW has 4. I haven't checked, but I'm willing to bet that we had the fewest seniors last year (just Rashaan) so we are not that far above the A10 average when it comes to the number of players that have to be replaced. If you want to make a fair comparison, wait ...

Re: State of the program

^ In total agreement there. It was about getting bodies for practice. But in hindsight, he probably should have focussed more on JUCOs and Grad Transfers rather than regular transfers. JUCOs and GTs would play immediately so you're not committing to a roster and then waiting around a year hoping it ...
