Re: 2019-20 season

Tough schedule this year, IMO. That stretch from Mogegan-Yale is going to be brutal. We could conceivably lose all 6 of those games. Tough competition for sure. for sure. 4 power conference games, with 3 of those on the road, followed by 2 against the co-champs of the Ivy. The other 7 non-conferenc...

Re: 2019-20 season

This seems to be a complete schedule (some with TV info), but there are only times for a few games. Guess times will roll in as we go along; would be nice to have sooner rather than later.

Re: Virgin Islands, August 2019, exhibition trip

Team building trip without Carl, who many of us (perhaps all) expect/hope to be a team leader. Might be a good idea, but I wouldn't have thought it desirable.

Re: 2019-20 season

A recent article about six "talented prospects" incoming to the A-10 includes (not surprisingly) Tre Mitchell. Sentence that struck me: "With Rashaan Holloway out of the picture and Khalea Turner-Morris likely out until midseason, Mitchell is someone that Coach McCall can rely on to step in and imme...

OTOH, it looked like (unlike UMass) Youngstown returned all 5 starters and all but 1 seldom-used player

Re: 2019-20 season

Touri posted another offseason article yesterday: https://dailycollegian.com/2019/07/umass-basketballs-summer-of-change-rolls-on/ I like hearing this: “The development of Diallo and Chatman the summer has been through the roof,” said McCall. The team has some experience/depth in guards and centers/...

Re: 2019-20 season

A-10 Talk asked for takes on the upcoming season and for UMass someone sent in "Umass will be a top 6 A10 team" A-10 Talk's take, copied below, gives the conventional wisdom; full article, with paragraphs about several teams is here: https://www.a10talk.com/a-10-summer-hot-takes/ "UMass fans are exc...

Re: 2019-20 season

we can't know yet how good each A-10 team will be, but the early guesses have us playing some top (VCU, Davidson) and bottom (Fordham, GW, SJU) teams only once, and playing teams expected to fight for middle positions twice.

Re: Around the A10 (2019-2020)

So who's helped/hurt by moving the 3-point line back? that seems like the big rule change this year. I think of Davidson and maybe Richmond as teams relying more on 3-pointers, and maybe UMass. St. Louis and Rhode Island seem lesser 3-point shooting teams. Much of any impact though, really?

hope you're right. I looked back at Hargrove, as I thought it wasn't just ESPN, but the "averaged rating" I read consisted of only ESPN (the average was 4* but they only averaged 1 rating). Loss of Michael Lewis might be a big enough hurt to keep them on the lower side of middle of the A-10 pack.

Re: Around the A10 (2019-2020)

St. Louis is still loaded How do you figure? Beyond French & Gordon, what do they have? To me their roster looks extremely shallow in terms of quality. those 2 (think it's Goodwin BTW) and also they have Terrence Hargrove, a 4* recruit and I thought they had 1 other, but now am not sure. They have ...

St. Louis is still loaded, although their full roster is unclear given tweets like this:

I don't think June 4 happened yet.

Re: The "Oh, What If" team

Always wondered what would have happened if Julius stayed for his Senior year. He would have been unstoppable and taken UMass to a top ranking and put UMass on the national stage. He would have done for UMass what Larry Bird did for Indiana State. He probably would have ended up as a Boston Celtic....
