Re: 2019-20 season

A-10 Talk asked for takes on the upcoming season and for UMass someone sent in "Umass will be a top 6 A10 team" A-10 Talk's take, copied below, gives the conventional wisdom; full article, with paragraphs about several teams is here: https://www.a10talk.com/a-10-summer-hot-takes/ "UMass fans are exc...

Re: 2019-20 season

we can't know yet how good each A-10 team will be, but the early guesses have us playing some top (VCU, Davidson) and bottom (Fordham, GW, SJU) teams only once, and playing teams expected to fight for middle positions twice.

Re: Around the A10 (2019-2020)

So who's helped/hurt by moving the 3-point line back? that seems like the big rule change this year. I think of Davidson and maybe Richmond as teams relying more on 3-pointers, and maybe UMass. St. Louis and Rhode Island seem lesser 3-point shooting teams. Much of any impact though, really?

Re: Around the A10 (2019-2020)

hope you're right. I looked back at Hargrove, as I thought it wasn't just ESPN, but the "averaged rating" I read consisted of only ESPN (the average was 4* but they only averaged 1 rating). Loss of Michael Lewis might be a big enough hurt to keep them on the lower side of middle of the A-10 pack.

Re: Around the A10 (2019-2020)

St. Louis is still loaded How do you figure? Beyond French & Gordon, what do they have? To me their roster looks extremely shallow in terms of quality. those 2 (think it's Goodwin BTW) and also they have Terrence Hargrove, a 4* recruit and I thought they had 1 other, but now am not sure. They have ...

St. Louis is still loaded, although their full roster is unclear given tweets like this:

I don't think June 4 happened yet.

Re: The "Oh, What If" team

Always wondered what would have happened if Julius stayed for his Senior year. He would have been unstoppable and taken UMass to a top ranking and put UMass on the national stage. He would have done for UMass what Larry Bird did for Indiana State. He probably would have ended up as a Boston Celtic....

Re: 2019-20 season

^ In my old fashioned position analysis, Sy always needed to be a 4, more so with Tre Mitchell coming and Djery and KTM being strictly 5s. Sy and Samba are it for traditional forwards, so the team will need a lot from both, and both come with plenty of questions and lots of potential. Samba also nee...

Re: 2019 Recruiting

... Only one Senior on scholarship next year. That is a complete rebuild and hopefully no more players leave early after next season. Seems like SOMEBODY will leave. Doesn't that generally happen? When you have 6 freshmen (maybe 7) I can't imagine they are all with the team for the duration. But yo...

Re: 2019 Recruiting

Clearly we are getting a lot from the Mitchell ranking. I don't know how sensitive this ranking system will be to adding lower end recruits. But it doesn't really matter. What matters is how they play once they get here. I love statistics and am highly trained in the area. Thanks for posting the me...

Re: 2019 Recruiting

I really like the size of East at the point. It is a huge advantage defensively if you have a 6'3" point in the A10 (assuming he has all the required skills and quickness of course). I never liked having smaller guys like Pip that often were mismatches and could be posted up. That length should hel...

Re: 2019-20 season

Pleasant memories of the 2 times I know of when UMass faced a defending national champion: Arkansas (1994) and UConn (2004).
