Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024

Pitino says he’s bringing in 7 plus players this year ! It’s like fantasy football but worse ! Buy the best team you can every year ! Bye bye for any mid major high aspirations! Mid-majors are doing well thus far. It's hard for them to keep the very best players, but it's easier to recruit contribu...

Tomorrow's game is the biggest game in program history?

Re: A10 Awards 2023-24

Selfishly, I would prefer that our players get less recognition than they deserve, only because the more recognition they get, the bigger of a target they become for other teams to poach.

Re: 2018 Recruiting needs and potential recruits

I don’t know for sure. I wouldn’t put it passed Tony to have reached out as school started in September. Like I said, the timing could be coincidental. It is very close. UMass offered Tre way back in 2017. Tony was Tre’s coach for those two years. What's evident to me, is that McCall didn't refuse ...

Re: 2018 Recruiting needs and potential recruits

I think the broadcaster had it wrong. Buie committed to Northwestern in September 2018, long before Bergeron was on the scene at UMass. As I recall being told from that time period, UMass did not pass on Buie, he passed on UMass. This is correct I assumed the timing I was reading was correct. Berge...

Re: 2018 Recruiting needs and potential recruits

But the much bigger whiff is Buie. Buie cashed in on the COVID-bonus year, and has racked up over 2100 points in the process. Their Senior Night broadcast worked in a mention of how UMass pulled his offer. https://twitter.com/CurryHicksSage/status/1766992975643488681 Someone in UMassTwitter said th...

Then why doesn't he go for 2 for 1's at the end of the first half when it's available? 50-60 seconds left on the clock when UMass gets the ball and we never try for a quick score so that we can get the ball back again.

Re: 2024 Recruiting

^ Centers are just so hard to get. I don't think dropping a bunch of NIL $ on a backup center is a good use of funds, but without that it's hard to see a team like UMass getting a center of his caliber just to come in and be a backup. Just remember Wildens, and how we lost him, and this guy is proba...

Re: First reaction: UMass to the MAC

I think it's going to be harder to recruit higher level talent to the MAC, especially if Frank moves on. IF he stays for a while, he MAY be able to out recruit other MAC programs and be at the top of the conference and it all looks good on paper, but, will he want to stay at this level? The appeal ...

Jeff Goodman @GoodmanHoops 25m Few more Ivy League grad transfers have gone portaling today, source told @TheFieldOf68: Columbia: G Zavian McLean (8.9 ppg) and F Josh Odunowo (8.0 ppg) Harvard: F Justice Ajogbor (8.4 ppg, 6.5 rpg) I would like to see if we can land Ajogbar. 6'10, 255 and averaged 2...

Re: Game 29, 2023-24: at Davidson (3/2)

Felt like we stole that one. And that foul on Thompson should have been a shooting foul. Cross carried us offensively with some help from DHS on the glass and Diggins from 3. Jayden made a ton of little things that were big plays. Rest of the guys were really ineffective. Cohen was a mess out there...

Re: First reaction: UMass to the MAC

Talk about a plot twist that would surprise even M Night Shimalayan: this whole time, Stevemaz has actually the one on earth while the rest of us have apparently been living on some other planet. Reading some of these posts... he's not far off about a few folks here... There is going to be one last...

Re: 2024 Recruiting

He said he had to leave right after his talk to see a recruit down in NY. This led to lots of questions. He said there are 3 areas that need to be improved for us to get to the next level. Athleticism, rim protection and *** he got interrupted***. I'm guessing 3-point shooting would be #3. The recr...

Re: Conference realignment

Tough pill to swallow for the sake of advancing football. The only consolation is that the CUSA route wasn't better/might have been worse. Mullins Center is going to be a ghost town. Imagine trying to get the students fired up to play Ball State or Miami (Ohio), never mind a team we have years of h...

Re: Game 27, 2023-24: St. Bonaventure (2/24)

This is the best UMass team in 10 years, but it's also one of the most exasperating. UMass was completely bewildered at the outset and despite hot shooting, they turned the ball over 10 times in the first half, otherwise they'd have been able to build a sizable lead. Tied with 3:32, and they only ge...
