Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024

I would love it, but I doubt we get TJ Power. I think Reid Ducharme and AJ Braun are much more likely.

Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024

I was looking forward to seeing Mason play more. Oh, well. I don't understand why people think him transferring is not a surprise. Why would the staff and player spend time building a relationship and investing in each other for him to play a semester as a late addition freshman, then bolt? Whateve...

Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024

I would gladly take BABC teammates TJ Power and Reid Ducharme for 1-2 years and let them use UMass as a stepping stone to a big bag elsewhere.

Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024

Tyler Mason now in the portal I look at this 2 ways: Maroon Colored Glasses or "WTF is going on here?" Maroon - Mason didn't see much action last year. Maybe Frank told him he didn't see an expanded role for him, so Mason moved on. This hopefully means that Frank knows he has 1 or 2 quali...

Re: KAEO Matt Cross

The collective doesn’t lose money when the player leaves. Putting a penalty in like you’re suggesting is extortion. Non compete clauses are getting tossed as illegal more often and are vindictive and BS. I didn't mean to imply that the collective would lose money when a player leaves, by "loss...

Re: KAEO Matt Cross

Niles, what would it accomplish? If a P5 team came in with a substantially better offer after year 1, the kid is gone. You could put in monetary penalties that would at least give you money to compensate for the loss and put you in better position to find a replacement. It also might be possible to...

Re: KAEO Matt Cross

Collective contracts are not binding, so a multi-year contract means nothing. I’m not an expert on contracts, but I see no reason an NIL contract couldn’t be structured in such a way as to incentivize a player to stay more than one season (and/or penalize for leaving). There are pros and cons to th...

Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024

The kids who've made multiple trips through the portal should all transfer to the University of the Benjamins. That way they won't be lying when they say that they're playing for the name on the front of the jersey. Are players saying that they're playing for the name on the front of the jersey? I ...

Re: KAEO Matt Cross

Niles, I don;t think you understand how the Collective contracts are worded. I'll let Patrick provide a full explanation, but payment are made in increments and start after the season starts. So if a player leaves before the start of the season, no funds have changed hands. I know what I'm suggesti...

Re: KAEO Matt Cross

The collectives have no power to restrict a transfer. A multi year contract would hamstring the collective not retain the player. Being a player and being employed by a collective is not the same job. They can structure a contract however they want as long as both parties agree. They could add in l...

Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024

^^ My extra curriculars were three part time jobs to help pay for college. I didn't get a free ride. Now you just sound like a bitter old man talking about tough you had it and no one that comes after you should have it any easier. Someone is willing to pay kids money, in some cases life-altering m...

Re: KAEO Matt Cross

My thought is the only way to fix this is to give players one free transfer and then sit out a year on future transfers unless there is a coaching change. Most, if not all, players do not want to sit a year even if they are getting paid. However, the courts don't agree with this. I disagree. Aside ...
