Re: The rise of the UMass football program...

When the move up was made in 2012 I was pretty excited about the possibiliites. No one's excited now. It's likely that the BEST that can ever happen is winning 6 games. Not something we're going to see.

Re: 2020 Season

It's projected they will play home games without fans in the stadium. Even if Covid-19 has been completely eradicated.

Re: State of the Progam

Pretty nice analysis by eldonabe. Football's just a very difficult program to build and comparing to Appalachian and Liberty is just is not an apples to apples comparison. We're caught in a very vicious circle of bad record, bad stadium, bad college football climate ( New England) which makes it dif...

Re: State of the Progam

Maybe if we recruit really well, benefit from some great coaching and get a few lucky bounces of the ball we too can play in the Bad Boy Lawnmowers Gasparilla Bowl in front of fewer than 14,000 fans. Is that the goal here?

Re: State of the Progam

Good for Isabella, but 1 success says nothing. Since we're not talking about golf or tennis, it's team results that matter. We've had a number of "individual" football players who've made a name for themselves and done quite well. (and that's fantastic) but I'd rather see the team with a winning re...

Re: State of the Progam

This article nails the current state of the program - https://commonwealthmagazine.org/education/umass-football-thrown-for-big-losses/ "For instance, Bamford says, Auburn University, which recently defeated perennial powerhouse Alabama to knock them out of playoff contention, will pay UMass $1.9 mi...

Re: State of the Progam

No football at The University of Massachusetts would be a sin. Absolutely have to figure it out. Can't even imagine there not being a program. Life with no football at UMass would be hard for us to deal with, but I guarantee you that no one at Boston University or Northeastern ever thinks about the...

Re: FIRE WALT BELL!

It was so botched, I'm just starting to wonder if it can be turned around. I was completely sold on the FBS idea back in 2012. Performance center went up, new press box, now the video board. Unfortunately none of that has translated into anything close to competitive football. Eight years of this ha...

Re: FIRE WALT BELL!

Not sure how you can say this wasn't a brutally honest assessment. This was the most mishandled "move up" any of us have ever seen. I've grown tired of hearing how well get some great recruits because they'll be offered playing time. Blah blah blah....

Re: Game 10: "The Greatest Gameday Experience in America"

Not that the radio broadcast team of the last number of years was terrible, but this latest crew is a big improvement! Like you say, UMass probably will not ask them to return.

Re: Game 10: "The Greatest Gameday Experience in America"

Not wanting to waste 3+ hours of my Saturdays, I've gotten into streaming the radio broadcast and actually getting some household projects done. Pete Brock has clearly had enough, and starting talking about dinner plans and sharing recipes for American chop suey. Sounded way better than game stats t...

Re: Game 9: vs Liberty - 11/2/2019

I think opponents have been pretty "sportsmanlike" this season overall. As embarrassing and lopsided as most of these scores have been you know they took their foot off the gas and inserted a lot of second and third string players.

You know things are bad when your radio guy says, 'Liberty could hang 100' after scoring their 49th point with time left on the clock in the 1st half.
The radio guys are pretty honest about the situation. No sugarcoating it.
