Re: The Massachusetts Collective - NIL initiative
Just so we know what is happening at some P5 schools. Congrats to Cal - it looks like he'll be able to pay whatever he wants to attract/keep players. From ESPN.com: At Arkansas, Calipari will reportedly have the NIL assistance of deep-pocketed boosters, such as Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Tyso...

Re: Moving to the Pioneer Valley?
It's a beautiful area, but your ride to the cape will be a very long one.

Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024
Another 2 "off-the-wall" potential prospects. Just speculating as I have no idea if we have contacted them. They both entered the portal today. Sean Stewart, freshman - Duke (6'9, 225). He's from FL and played at Monteverde. Only got 8 minutes a game and maybe looking for PT. Here is some ...

Re: 2024 Recruiting
I've watched video on him and he looks pretty good. If the offers mentioned are legit, I wonder why he hasn't committed yet. However, I would prefer an experienced player at the 5. It takes most freshmen a year to figure things out and we don't have that luxury at the 5 right now.

Re: KAEO Tafara Gapare
^ In this case, I'm not sure it is about the money coming from Maryland. I have a feeling that the GA Tech NIL felt they didn't get their money's worth, and the coaching staff didn't see a player who was going to be a major factor. It may have been a mutual parting of the ways. But as I always say r...

Re: KAEO Tafara Gapare
He just transferred from Georgia Tech to Maryland. 3 schools in 3 years. Great athlete, mediocre BB player. His stats this year were 5.1 points, 3.5 boards and 17% from 3. On top of that, he decommitted from GW and DePaul before he even got to UMass.

Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024
Niles, glad to say I agree with you on the 3 most likely transfers. Worthy never seemed comfortable, Foster hardly played and Majok is a long term project. Of the 3, I felt less likely that Majok would transfer unless he went down a couple of levels. I kind of hope he stays because if he ever figure...

Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024
TJ Power, a 6'9 PF from Duke just entered the portal. He's from Shrewsbury and played for Worcester Academy. He only got 7 minutes a game as a freshman. Maybe he wants more playing time and to be closer to home (these are both wild speculation). Here's part of his bio from Duke: Rated by 247Sports w...

Re: 2024-2025 Season
Has anyone seen that we have a transfer DMan coming in from Denver U. This was in the Hockey Transfer Portal site:
UMass
F Joey Musa, sr, Dartmouth, 6-11—17 x
D Lucas Olvestad, so, Denver, 0-6—6

Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024
Tyler Mason now in the portal I look at this 2 ways: Maroon Colored Glasses or "WTF is going on here?" Maroon - Mason didn't see much action last year. Maybe Frank told him he didn't see an expanded role for him, so Mason moved on. This hopefully means that Frank knows he has 1 or 2 quali...

Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024
Other A10 teams have been getting commits and our lack of activity is making me nervous. GW just got a 6'9 transfer from Cornell. He's not a game-changer, but at least he's an experienced big. I know Frank hinted at 2 recruits, so why have we not heard anything? Last year, Josh was announced around ...

Re: KAEO Matt Cross
Niles, what would it accomplish? If a P5 team came in with a substantially better offer after year 1, the kid is gone.

Re: KAEO Matt Cross
Collective contracts are not binding, so a multi-year contract means nothing.

Re: KAEO Matt Cross
Niles, I don;t think you understand how the Collective contracts are worded. I'll let Patrick provide a full explanation, but payment are made in increments and start after the season starts. So if a player leaves before the start of the season, no funds have changed hands.

Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024
1697 names counts both division 1 and 2, right? So that'd be 650 schools or almost 3 people per school. I would guess that most of those names are Division 1, given that division 2 isn't as intense. Hopefully, we hear some good news about incoming players today! My ultimate dream is Aidan Mahaney c...
