Re: Looking Ahead to the 2019-2020 Season

Expect BC to be much improved this year. Three of their commits, including a goalie, were taken in the first round tonight of the NHL draft. BU had four first-round picks (and 12 picks overall) last year. BC also had 12 overall picks (one first-rounder -- Oliver Wahlstrom). Neither team finished .5...

Re: Vote for Cale for the Hobey Baker

He burned Year 1 of his ELC just by signing, and he also made himself eligible for the 2021 expansion draft by playing. So Colorado would need to protect him or expose him to the new Seattle franchise. You have to assume that's something the player/agent can forces on the franchise. That's the lever...

Re: vs. UNH - quarterfinals

I think most scenarios that knock out Providence are based on some combination of two of: a.) either BU/BC winning Hockey East; b.) Bowling Green winning the WCHA; c.) Brown winning the ECAC.

I don't subscribe to ESPN+ so I couldn't read the rest of the story to find out where Corey Mackin ranks.
He signed an amateur tryout yesterday with the Reading Royals of the ECHL.

Re: 2018-2019 Season

Conference tournaments start this weekend for 4 pf the 6 conferences. Outside of Hockey East I’m rooting for upsets. Would be good if the teams UMass is competing with for a number 1 seed got a couple of losses to not great competition and also would be nice to get a first round opponent in the NCA...

Re: 2018-2019 Season

Most tiebreakers should work that you try to eliminate teams to eventually get to just two teams remaining for one spot. Unfortunately, the way they are worded often makes them more confusing. For instance: If three teams are tied for a spot, and it comes down to something like head-to-head records ...

Re: 2018-2019 Season

The relevance is that they actually do break ties using the RPI as the tiebreaker when it comes to things such as seeding, final at-large berths, etc. So while SC and UMass are "tied", SC is considered the No. 1 team. For instance, if two teams are tied at 4-5, the No. 4 team (based on better RPI) l...

Re: Head coaching options

Harasymiak was just hired to P.J. Fleck's staff at Minnesota.

He'll be an assistant there, not a DC (the current DC previously was at Maine under Cosgrove).

Re: Assistant Coaching Staff

I remember Knighten when he was the QB at Arkansas State, which would have been when Bell was there. He was assistant QBs coach at FSU this past season.

Bills also was on FSU's staff as an offensive analyst.

Liam Coen who was my personal first choice to be the new HC at UMass, has been hired to be the new OC at Boston College.
And, no. Unsure if he had a change of heart, or whether the official report was wrong, but he's staying with the Rams (for now).

Re: Walt Bell

Verdi is a bust. I have not been critical of McCall. Since you’re the second person i’ve seen express this sentiment in the last two weeks, I’m curious why: Tory Verdi (9-21 first season, 14-16 last year, 5-4 this year) is a bust ... But ... Matt McCall (13-20 first season, 5-3 this year) is fine.

Re: Walt Bell

Some Florida State perspective: I'll say this great young coach great offensive mind and one hell of a recruiter maybe one of top in mid Atlantic specifically I think it's a great get for UMass and hopefully he stays for a few years (4/5) and builds this program up! Top notch recruiter and serious p...

Re: Whip Gone?

The MAC has seven bowl-eligible teams this season and only four official bowl tie-ins with one conditional spot. So being in the MAC this season wouldn’t be any more of a guarantee for UMass than being an independent had they won six games. The latest projection I saw had 81 potential bowl teams (if...

Re: Whip Gone?

Really wished Whip would have been able to pull another rabbit out of his hat, but It seems the financial constraints the program lives with along with the facilities and independent status were too much to overcome. I'm hoping that somehow the next HC will not be put in the position of bringing a ...
