Re: Dan Shaughnessy

^ Here is one of many reports online: "Shaughnessy admitted his disdain for Cal dates back 20 years, when Cal refused to allow the Globe in his home on Selection Sunday. The Globe’s beat reporter, Joe Burris, had written a negative report on the Minutemen’s academic standing, and Cal decided he did...

Re: Game 12: BYU - 11/23/2019

Can't help but wonder how many points UMass could have scored at UConn last year if that game wasn't played in a monsoon. That could have made up the difference.

Re: Defending National Champ games

Having sat courtside for both, there is no doubt in my mind the UNC game is No. 1, just for the sheer magnitude of what UMass accomplished that night and the buzz surrounding that win. The win over Arkansas was tremendous, of course, but UMass was ranked No. 3 in the country to start that season and...

Re: 2019-20 Season

There was no obvious team to jump ahead of UMass after Minnesota-Duluth lost twice to Wisconsin (which moved up 11 spots to No. 6, four spots ahead of BC despite losing at Conte last weekend).

Re: Makar in NHL

From a tweet by Scott Cullen, a contributor to The Athletic and The Hockey News: "Avalanche rookie D Cale Makar controlled play (70.4 CF%, 80.6 xGF%) vs. Boston." Can someone translate these statistics for me? Corsi For (CF) = Shot attempts for at even strength: Shots + Blocks + Misses So essential...

Re: GAME 5 9/28 AKRON

It was finally fun to be at a FB game. A couple of items worth mentioning. 2. Credit to Ally and the O line for closing out the game. When is the last time we had a 1 score lead, got the ball at the 25 and ran out the last 5 1/2 minutes to end the game? We had 3 subs on the O line and rushed for ov...

I know stevemaz personally, and have since we were both at UMass. I might not dispute that he's crazy :D but he is not someone else. FWIW.

Re: Looking Ahead to the 2019-2020 Season

Our third and fourth games are against Union - both at Mullins. I stumbled across this Union post just now: ALBANY — The Union men’s hockey team was picked to finish eighth by the ECAC hockey coaches in their annual preseason poll, which was announced Tuesday. "I would put us in the bottom 4 somewh...

Re: Game 1: @ Rutgers - 8/30/2019

My biggest problem with the hurry-up offense is that it really hangs an undermanned defense out to dry when it doesn’t put together drives — which is what happened after the first quarter. Whipple never learned this, or didn’t care — doesn’t really matter which. That’s the one thing that concerns me...

Re: Looking Ahead to the 2019-2020 Season

Expect BC to be much improved this year. Three of their commits, including a goalie, were taken in the first round tonight of the NHL draft. BU had four first-round picks (and 12 picks overall) last year. BC also had 12 overall picks (one first-rounder -- Oliver Wahlstrom). Neither team finished .5...

Re: Vote for Cale for the Hobey Baker

He burned Year 1 of his ELC just by signing, and he also made himself eligible for the 2021 expansion draft by playing. So Colorado would need to protect him or expose him to the new Seattle franchise. You have to assume that's something the player/agent can forces on the franchise. That's the lever...

Re: vs. UNH - quarterfinals

I think most scenarios that knock out Providence are based on some combination of two of: a.) either BU/BC winning Hockey East; b.) Bowling Green winning the WCHA; c.) Brown winning the ECAC.

I don't subscribe to ESPN+ so I couldn't read the rest of the story to find out where Corey Mackin ranks.
He signed an amateur tryout yesterday with the Reading Royals of the ECHL.

Re: 2018-2019 Season

Conference tournaments start this weekend for 4 pf the 6 conferences. Outside of Hockey East I’m rooting for upsets. Would be good if the teams UMass is competing with for a number 1 seed got a couple of losses to not great competition and also would be nice to get a first round opponent in the NCA...

Re: 2018-2019 Season

Most tiebreakers should work that you try to eliminate teams to eventually get to just two teams remaining for one spot. Unfortunately, the way they are worded often makes them more confusing. For instance: If three teams are tied for a spot, and it comes down to something like head-to-head records ...
