Re: Game 27, 2023-24: St. Bonaventure (2/24)
At 66-66 the Bonnies called a timeout. I was out of my seat like a lot of people as it felt like one of those timeouts where the fans never sit down until play resumes. However some techno pop song came on and literally sucked the energy out of the building. If Shout by Otis Day and the Knights came...

Re: Game 19, 2023-24: Saint Joe's (1/23)
With the 12.5 seconds left my first thought was to put Majok under the basket and tell him to just jump up and down, wave his arms and to swat any shot or rebound that comes within reach to the opposite end of the court. Just dont touch anyone on St Joes! My other thought was that Matt Cross has to ...

Red: [to Andy] Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane. Guys we all love UMass and this basketball program. We fight online with naysayers and back our guys and University. Every season we become acquainted with a new roster of players and persona...

Re: Coach Tory Verdi
Ladies College Basketball has more eyeballs watching it now more than ever. Programs around the country are going to invest to upgrade to get on the bandwagon. Good luck to Coach Verdi. I had a great chat with him at the Coach's Caravan last summer. As with any job at UMass I hope that an Alum is gi...

Re: 2023-24 Season
We have had the use of the Champions Center for 8 seasons now. Even Cal said it was one of the best basketball facilities in the nation that should attract top talent. The bottom line is that it has not resulted an NCAAT victory yet. (The Ladies team does have an NCAAT appearance). We have had 3 reg...

Re: Game 2, 2022-23: Towson (11/10)
First on this Veterans Day while I was walking on campus last night I was thinking back to when I was a UMass junior 40 years ago in 1982. Now lets go back 40 more years to 1942. Those UMass students going to a game at The Cage had to be worrying about being sent to the Pacific or Europe to fight th...

Re: Game 32, 2021-22: Dayton (A10 Qtrs, 3/11)
Tough loss to digest. When Anthony Grant got the T I would have rather had Noah at the line than Rich (missed one). We had the 3 point lead and the ball with under 90 seconds left....I sat up and said "We are going to do this!" But then Noah got stripped. If only CJs 3 had gone down. Some ...

I went to Marcus Camby Day. I am 2-0 attending games on campus this year (Rutgers and St Joes). Yes the crowd was great. Thanks to board Hall of Famer InnervisionsUMass for buying me a Camby IPA at the half. I am in the camp of letting Matt finish the last year of his deal. He likes Amherst it seems...

Re: 2021-2022 Season
I am sure the coaching staff is scouring the grad transfer list. As we have seen in the past a lot of guys want to come home to the Bay State to finish their careers. Getting to the Final 4 of the A10 tournament is wide open every year. The key is getting a double bye. With the guys that do come bac...

Guys for 25 years we have all been lost in the woods of the Pioneer Valley searching for a single NCAA tournament victory. Every avenue has been explored to get out of the woods, coaching change, AD change, Champions Center, serving beer, new floor, and DK even studied "how we eat and travel&qu...

Re: Game 3, 2020-21: at La Salle (12/16)
I agree with the previous comments about the press. The umasshoops readers have watched thousands of hours of college basketball and we know our stuff. Tre cant score 30+ points every night like George Iceman Gervin. We need the Pierres and Weeks to step up every game. This is a good start to the A1...

Re: KAEO: CJ Jackson
I have been up to Mullins for three of the A10 games. When there is say 12:22 left on the game clock with a stoppage and UMass has the ball I would like to see CJ come in for the offensive possession before the under 12 media or other media timeout. I think he has a better chance from what I have se...

Re: Game 27, 2019-20: at Fordham (2/22)
Coach McCall was just on pregame show. Said if they look up at Under 16 break and it is 8-8 they need to keep playing thru it. When I got to the Mullins Center last Saturday UMass was up 15-12. Then they didnt score for about 6 minutes. WE CANT HAVE THE SCORING DROUGHTS! Carl needs to be the stopper...

Re: Game 15, 2019-20: La Salle (1/08)
When we have a lead with a few minutes left in the game (like in the SLU OT) someone has to step up and deliver the dagger to extinguish the hopes of the other team. We miss TJ there with his shooting but other guys can be our "closer" like Jimmy Chitwood in Hoosiers. Maybe when we can do ...

Re: Game 8: vs UConn - 10/26/2019 (Homecoming Weekend)
Had a great time at 2019 Homecoming. I got to be a participant in the "fan tunnel" for UMass player entrance. Met a few board members. Drank about 6 different varietals of beer and got a complimentary Jack Daniels at Isenberg Tent. Super day. I didnt get a parking pass and ended up in Lot ...
