Re: 2020 Season

so SEC has conference only, will Auburn have to pay UMass? If not that is 5% of a 40m budget, we're in BIG trouble as a department. It's a problem young man. But as posted in the media that UMass Athletic budget has been trimmed by 4.5-5m. There may be additional adjustments in the next few weeks a...

Am I the only one that has a problem with Coach Bell tweeting a video of the detonation of a nuclear bomb when announcing a new recruit?

Probably.
Think so, the bomb won us the war.

Re: 2021 Recruiting

Think early enroll recruits could play if football is moved to the spring.

Or the Grateful Dead! They played at McGuirk for the spring concert in my day. Was a great show.

Re: 2020 Season

Say it's up in the air and we may not push, needing SEC games in the future. My wild a$$ guess is that we get something like 300k or perhaps more likely is something that Matty V suggests as the home and home in basketball and reschedule in the future. https://www.masslive.com/umassfootball/2020/07/...

Re: 2020 Season

“ The Big Ten is expected to announce today that it will go with a conference-only football schedule for this fall, a person with direct knowledge situation tells @TheAthleticCFB.” Our athletic department is in trouble if football is in the fall but we can’t play any buy games, right? How about no ...

Re: 2020 Season

Covid-19 is going to have impacts, but we don't know the end game. View this no OOC games as a stop gap before some conferences move the season to the Spring. Could be wrong, but trending that way. As losing say 1.9M buy game, the staff has taken a minimum of a 2% pay cut and there will be less trav...

Re: State of the Progam

Have posted recently that perhaps the A10 is best for UMass and cold feet about the AAC. With UConn gone there is only Temple that is bus-able and everyone else is a flight for all sports. It's my hope 4-7 years a combination with UConn or Army football only to another G5 conference would make some ...

He also talked about the golden rule, gold/money. Media pays for those fall time slots and where the money is. Generally following the money is a good bet.

Re: The rise of the UMass football program...

The A10 is the only conference which is bus-able to nearly half the conference for Olympic sports. The G5 conferences have one, AAC - Temple and the MAC and CUSA are a stretch to have one. Know the AAC is the dream, but it will take money and on field performance leaps. Not impossible but if it does...

Re: The rise of the UMass football program...

There maybe some truth to your post, but you need to put it into context. Every sport has the died-hard and the fair weather fans. Football has not had a winning season in over a decade! Hockey had a huge jump after the NCAA championship run Basketball saw a huge jump in the 90's, NIT Final-4's, an...

Re: The rise of the UMass football program...

Thought economist do lots of research. From your post above. The northeast is just not built for college football. BC had a nice solid run for a few years way back when, but that is i t. For Umass (or BC for that matter) to be relevant - I mean truly relevant - the investment would have to be solid ...

Re: The rise of the UMass football program...

Or maybe it is just the product on the field. :( http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/football_records/Attendance/2019.pdf FBS and FCS attendance figures start on page 6. We averaged below 10,000, with only 2 ex-MAC brethren joining us below that line. UConn stunk too, but they nearly doubled our average....
