Re: Game 2: #12 Ohio State @ Garber @ 1 on Sat. 2/16

Too many bad shots and turnovers. And too many not quality shots getting past Sconone, including a shot from the top of the box! Not awful, but not good enough to beat a quality team. Don't sugarcoat it, two home games to start the season and both losses. Not what we were expecting.

Re: Game 1: Army @ Garber @ 1 on Sat. 2/9 (free stream)

Unfortunately, Sconone couldn't make the big save when needed, and Army's goalie did. Army did a really good job creating opportunities out of doubles; UMass was too slow to regroup after doubles. Need Trainor more of a factor on offense, I like that he plays both sides of the ball, but will that we...

Re: Game 3 - Harvard @ Garber - Sat. 2/24 @ 1

I didn't see the game but was following on Twitter. Losing to Harvard 15-20 years ago was unheard of. Easy to look at the coaching staff but I was surprised Cannella was extended. Definitely felt like a program needing a change. A lot of kids on the roster from Mass, maybe core Mass HS players are n...

Re: Game 3 Harvard

Just looking at the roster, it does seem pretty young, so that's the positive spin. But they have usually been able to re-stock while still being real competitive. Could be time for a change in coach, haven't seen that possibility proposed yet.

Re: Game 1: Army @ McGuirk today @ 1

The obvious question is why Whiteway didn't play. Terrible reporting that it's not even mentioned about a two year starter not playing. Was he on the bench, did he warm-up, any sign of injury?

Hope the lax team can make up for a disappointing A10 showing by the hoop team.

Glad I didn't make the two hour drive for this game. I had to look twice when I got the score. I don't understand how this could happen, either they have been reading their press clippings and the top ten ranking went to their head or they just didn't come to play, which is mind boggling. I'd love t...

I have seen the hoop team in many places, including a place I didn't see listed in other posts (didn't read them all);

Philadelphia Civic Center - 1996 A10 Tourney - Place was a dump.

Mooney also deserves some mention for bringing some order to clears, which were not always smooth or easy. He was an effective outlet for the D and he did a good job bringing the ball into the offensive zone (along with Izzo who was fantastic).

Oh yeah, and holding Jesse King to one assist was huge, UMass' defense really frustrated him.

I think the keys were Calvello was dominant at the FOGO position, UMass had more possessions and kept OSU's offense out of the game. UMass really got after ground balls as well, really loved the effort and physical play. What a great team win.

Ohio State looked real good against Hopkins, they really deserved to win that game. Some good goalkeeping and some terrible calls cost them. A little concerned about a young UMass team going up against OSU, maybe we'll catch them in letdown mode after the Hopkins game.

I'm not sure about Siena, but St. John's is supposed to be pretty good this year, they are in the top 20 in preseason polls. Still, teams don't like to show too much in these exhibition games and they like to get looks at their new players. But it's better to win them then lose them!
